Travelling Bridges for Grease and Grit Removal
The QXS-type traveling bridge grit removal system is used mainly in the aerated grit chambers of municipal wastewater treatment plants and drinking water plants. The traveling bridge grit removal system lifts the mixture of water and settled grit, coal cinders, and other particles from the chamber floor to the grit discharge trough at the chamber edge and conveys it to downstream solid-liquid separation equipment, such as a grit classifier. Grease and scum skimming devices can be added to project requirements.
This traveling bridge system utilizes a pump-suction bridge that travels back and forth along the chamber. A submersible grit pump draws the grit-water mixture from the floor through a suction pipe and delivers it to the grit trough. With the optional scum skimmer, the bridge also collects floating scum from the surface in one travel direction and discharges it, allowing the traveling bridge system to handle grit suction, discharge, and scum removal.
